MARY CAINCROSS PARK

Public BBQ

A hinterland reserve with sweeping views across to the Glass House Mountains, and a genuinely special place to spend a few hours. Rainforest walking paths wind beneath huge old trees, with bird calls constant and pademelons about for anyone patient enough to look. The visitor centre is excellent and the staff notably knowledgeable, while the cafe overlooks the mountains and serves good food — the children's meals included — with plenty of seating indoors and out and a well-organised order-and-pay counter. Several picnic areas, some undercover, sit among large grassy spaces, and the toilets are excellent. Access is well thought out for children and visitors with disabilities. Two caveats: the playground is due for an upgrade, and sections of the walking trail have been closed for works.
